Laser Hair Reduction Treatment

Laser hair reduction refers to a medical procedure in which unwanted hair is removed through lasers (that is, a beam of focused light). Skinisma Aesthetics offers the best laser hair reduction in Delhi and has the right technique to make sure that you will never have to witness the embarrassment of unwanted hair on your body. Skinisma gives you an overview of the price of laser hair reduction in Delhi.

In a laser hair reduction treatment, light emitted from the laser is focused on the part from where hair needs to be removed. The mechanism of action of laser is to target melanin, a pigment present in the hair shaft and hair matrix, by emitting focused light with wavelengths ranging from 600 to 12000nm because those wavelengths are selectively absorbed by melanin. Pigment melanin in the hair absorbs the light and converts it to heat. This heat damages the hair follicles present within the skin, thereby inhibiting or delaying future hair growth.

The laser hair reduction treatment is suggested to reduce unwanted hair growth in any part of the skin except the eyelid or the area surrounding the eyes or on the skin that has tattoos.

The procedure of Laser Hair treatment

During a laser hair treatment, the hairs are shaved or trimmed from the area where the treatment has to be done. The eye protection glasses will be provided to you and your doctor to protect your eyes from the laser beam. The parameters are set according to each patient’s skin and hair type and the type of laser being used. A hand-held laser instrument is to be placed perpendicular to the skin. Ensure that it is pressed down gently but firmly onto your skin, activating the laser and allowing it to pass through the skin to the hair follicles.

The hair follicles are damaged by the intense heat generated from the laser beam, thereby inhibiting the growth of the hair. A cooling gel or device is also used to protect the skin and reduce the risk of any side effects during the treatment. Perifollicular edema and erythema are expected side effects after laser, settling down in a few hours. The treatment protocol depends upon various factors:

  • Understanding your skin, hair type, and growth pattern enable doctors to suggest the right treatment plan for you.
  • Using the laser beam on a small part of the body to assess the sensitivity and reaction to the skin towards the laser beam.
  • Hormonal status of patient.
  • Laser type and wavelength of the laser.
  • A certified and qualified doctor, especially in laser treatment, plans a customized procedure for your treatment.

Duration of laser hair treatment

Laser hair removal acts only on the hair matrix during the anagen phase of the hair cycle; therefore, multiple treatments will be required to address all hair follicles when they are sensitive to laser treatment. Approximately six to eight treatment sessions are required for effective results, and the gap between two successive treatments will be 4-6 weeks in the initial phase of treatment. Subsequently, the period increase with each session, and at last, you will need only maintenance sessions once every 6-12 months as small vellus hair may grow back.

The duration of each treatment also depends on the size of the area where we need it. For small areas such as the upper lip, the treatment will take only a few minutes, whereas, for larger areas like your back, the procedure may extend for more than an hour. Full body session takes approximately 3-4 hours in total.
