Ear Lobe Repair: What is it?
Earlobe repair is a minor surgical procedure to mend a lobe that has been torn, stretched, or damaged by trauma (an accidental pull or tug), heavy earrings, or intentional body modifications (e.g., gauging). As earlobes age, they may lose their shape or become completely split, making it difficult and, in some instances, impossible to wear earrings.
Earlobe repair is typically performed in the office under local anesthesia and involves excising the damaged tissue, and carefully suturing the earlobe to restore the overall appearance of the lobe. The procedure is quick and performed on an outpatient basis with little discomfort, and most patients can return to all normal activities soon after the procedure is complete (usually within a week) the sutures are removed.
Once healed, the earlobes return to a reasonable aesthetic appearance, and in the majority of cases, they can be re-pierced after a few months. This simple and effective procedure can greatly enhance confidence and help re-establish symmetry of facial profile.
